What: The Adventure Initiative for Adults provides opportunities each season for individuals 18 years of age and older. The focus is on having fun, meeting new people and gaining skills for outdoor adventure. The program is run by Healthy Hometowns, a division of Maine Winter Sports Center.
Who: Adult programs are open to anyone with a willingness to learn and interest in sharing their knowledge with others.
When: Each season (spring, summer, fall & winter) we provide at least one multi-day adventure ranging from two days to two weeks in length.
Where: Our trips run primarily throughout Maine, but occasionally go further afield.
Price: The cost of multi-day trips will vary depending on the nature of the trip. We aim to make these opportunities as affordable as possible. Generally participants pay no more than they would if they were planning the trip themselves.
Eligibility: Any adult 18 years of age or older is eligible.
Contact: For more information please contact Mike Smith (mikes@mainewsc.org 227.0250) or Lauren Jacobs (lauren@mainewsc.org 227.8580). Also, join our Adventure Initiative group on Facebook for more info.
Winter 2012 Adventure Initiatives:
Baxter Backcountry Ski Tour:In the heart of the Maine wilderness lays Baxter State Park, a gift to the residents of Maine from governor Percival Baxter. Thousands of people visit the parks' vast wilderness and breathtaking peaks throughout the summer months, but the beauty of the Baxter region in winter is a secret reserved only for those willing to take on the adventure. This winter, be one of the lucky individuals who explores this winter wonderland. Spend your days skiing through pristine wilderness, and your nights comfortably seated by a woodstove with fun companions. Let your skis lead the way into the Baxter Backcountry.
Dates: February 20th - 24th

Gaspe Ski Tour:North of Maine and New Brunswick lies the Gaspe Peninsula. Stretching out into the St. Lawrence Seaway, this rugged piece of Quebec is home to the Chic Choc mountains and some of the deepest snow found in eastern North America. This season Maine Winter Sports Center's Healthy Hometowns Program offers you the opportunity to tour this incredible region. We will ski along a backcountry hut system that brings you through heart of the park, as well as explore day trips near the Gaspe's highest peaks. Don't miss this opportunity to share in the adventure and let your skis take you somewhere unforgettable.
Dates: March 27th - April 1st
